GARNA is the Arkansas River Valley’s only local broadly focused conservation and educational institution with non-profit status.  2006 marked the tenth year of assisting the Bureau of Land Management, the US Forest Service, the Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area, the Colorado Division of Wildlife, the Chaffee County Commissioners and various local municipalities to accomplish specific projects. GARNA also provides services to the public including publishing and selling local guidebooks and history titles, organizing programs and field trips and staffing local visitor centers.  GARNA serves as administrator for the Chaffee County Heritage Area Program under guidance of an appointed Heritage Advisory Board.

 Although GARNA’s funding comes from contributions from its partner public agencies, tax-deductible membership fees, publication sales and from grants, much of its actual work is done by volunteers who have given thousands of hours of their time in support of specific activities.
