Edible and Useful Plants Foraging Hike

June 7, 2015 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Sam LIebl
Sam Liebl

Join Sam Liebl of Earth Knack in Crestone on a foraging hike to look for edible native plants. The group will identify many of the plants that Sam mentioned in his May GARNA talk, “Using Wild Plants in Your Life”, as well as other plants of the region that can be used for food, tools and medicine. The hike will take place on BLM land across from the Salida East (Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area) recreation site east of Salida. Sam selected this location because it’s loaded with the plants he spoke about at the May 7 talk. There are over a dozen species of edible/medicinal/useful plants, and the area demonstrates very well how human impact has a beneficial role on plant communities.

Presenter Sam Liebl has dedicated himself to finding a sustainable way to live in the Western United States. To that end he has become a student of indigenous skills–how to feed, clothe, heal, and shelter himself as humans have for 95% of our time on this planet. Sam is an instructor at the Crestone-based Earth Knack School. He and his wife Jillian teach survival and primitive skills in Salida, Crestone, and around the country. They write about their life at SamAndJillian.com.

The cost of the class is $10 for GARNA members, $12 for non-members.

Sorry, this class is full.
