Wildscapes 101 Workshop

Habitat Hero logoLearn how—and why—to garden in a water-wise way and provide habitat for pollinators and songbirds. Plant biologist and award-winning author Susan J. Tweit will explain how to grown a healthy and vibrant landscape that nurtures butterflies, hummingbirds and other pollinators, and songbirds. She’ll talk about weeds and weed control, native and regionally adapted plants, reducing chemical use and restoring and creating habitat. Followed by a short “field trip” on the Salida Trail around Monarch Spur Park. Bring your garden questions and concerns, and leave inspired and ready to grow healthy habitat!

The presentation will be filmed for “Hometown Habitat”, a video project/TV show pilot. There will be a drawing for a Birdwatcher’s Habitat Hero pre-planned garden from High Country Gardens which includes 15 plants and is valued at $130. A few copies of the book Colorado Wildscapes will be given away and each attendee will receive a sample butterfly/hummingbird wildflower seed packet.

Cost: $5 for GARNA members for $8 for non-members.

Tickets will be available at the door (cash or check only please). Please enter through the main front door of the Salida High School.

Many GARNA programs require a Liability Release Form be filled out each calendar year.

Your registration is secured upon receipt of payment, as long as there space is still available in a program. If you prefer not to register online (recommended), you may mail a check, made out to “GARNA” to the address below or stop by the office. Please include a note with the program you are registering for. Be aware, some programs sell out quickly, and we cannot confirm your spot with a mailed registration.

Cancellation policy:

If we are notified of your need to cancel by 24 hours of program date, your program fee will be refunded except for a $3.00 administrative fee. No refunds within 24 hours or after the event (but most events are transferable). If minimum enrollment has not been met 2 days before program date, programs will be cancelled and we will refund the full amount.
