Buena Vista – Nature’s Explorers 2020

Join us for Nature’s Explorers: a summer in nature with hands-on activities, games, art, journaling, and of course, exploring!

Ages: Rising Kindergartners – Rising 3rd Graders

Meeting Location:  Buena Vista Community Center  (715 E Main St, See Map)

Time:  9:30 AM – 3:30 PM

4 Session Series on Mondays

June 15 –  Session 1Wilderness Skills @ the Midland Trails and downtown parks. Get to know fellow campers and counselors through team building games, Leave No Trace activities, shelter building and nature art.  Campers will take a short hike along the Barbara Whipple Trail to learn about using their senses to make nature observations.

June 22 – Session 2:  The Life of Fish @ The Chalk Cliff Fish Hatchery and Wrights Lake. During this session, we will dive into what makes our waters a good home for fish and insects. Learn more about trout while visiting the local Fish Hatchery and then learn to cast and fish at Wrights Lake.

July 6 – Session 3:  River Creatures @ Rocky Mountain Outdoor Center.  In this session, we will explore a what makes the wetland and riparian habitat so unique for all the animals who rely on it.  We will learn about migratory birds and invertebrates who call the area home. Explore the river looking for aquatic invertebrates and learning about their life cycles!

July 9- Session 4:  Forest Findings @ Collegiate Peaks Campground  Learn about the mammals who make their home in the subalpine by exploring skins, skulls, scat and tracks.  We will also explore this beautiful area for wildflowers and learn about trees!
