Be a part of the solution! Support GARNA’s Sustainability Coordinator by getting involved in our local green initiatives. We have several flexible ways for you to make an impact.
Waste Diversion: Help close the loop by identifying ‘hard to recycle’ events GARNA can host! Plus, evaluate and deploy expanded resource recovery programs for the local community.
Education: Be part of a mobilized, passionate group that helps distribute educational material on a regular basis all within Chaffee County and identify community organizations for educational outreach.
- Sustainable Salida Businesses: Approach local businesses to join the SSB program, educate owners on what it takes to be a recognized sustainable business and provide continuous support and educational resources. We would love to grow this program beyond Salida to the other towns within Chaffee County!

Totes Out of Feed Bags:
We love feeding our natural wildlife and our pets however, all of that equates to thousands of empty feed bags once the animals eat the food. All of which end up in the landfill as the feed bags are unable to be composted or be recycled in your typical curbside bin.
Not all hope is lost though! There are many projects online, demonstrating how to repurpose this non-decomposing, non-recyclable packaging.
For instance, a group of local ladies have created repurposed totes and they even made an ATV Cover out of the feed bags!
The leaders of this tote-making are willing to show others, but we challenge you: what repurpose ideas can you come up with?
Already sewn, repurposed totes are available in the lobby of TBK Bank in Buena Vista through a donation- 100% of the donations come to GARNA!
