Nature’s Explorers 2019 – Buena Vista Camp

Join us for Nature’s Explorers, a summer in nature with hands-on activities, games, art, journaling, and of course, exploring!  We will meet outside the Buena Vista Community Center each week and take a Chaffee Shuttle bus to our field trip locations.

Ages: Rising Kindergartners – Rising 3rd Graders

Meeting Location: Buena Vista Community Center (715 East Main Street, Buena Vista, CO –  See Map)

Time: 9:30 AM – 3:30 PM

3 Session Series on Mondays:

June 17 –  Session 1: River Creatures @ the Rocky Mountain Outdoor Center.  Get to know fellow campers and counselors while exploring the great outdoors. In this session, we will explore a what makes a riparian habitat so unique for all the animals who rely on it.  We will learn about migratory birds, aquatic plants, and invertebrates who call the area home. 

June 24 – Session 2: Wilderness Skills and Wildlife @ Collegiate Peaks Campground.   It’s important to be prepared when going on a hike or spending a day in the outdoors.  This week, team building games, Leave No Trace Skills, What to Pack in your Pack, wildlife tracks, and Shelter Building will all be a part of camp! Plus, we will learn about some of the mammals who live in the Subalpine Ecosystem.

July 8 Session 3: The Life of Fish @ Wrights Lake and the Chalk Cliff Fish Hatchery, Nathrop.  Learn more about trout while visiting the local Fish Hatchery and then learn to cast and fish at Wrights Lake.  This week of camp will also include games, art, and a camp favorite –  boat building and racing!
