Public Lands Career Exploration

surveyThe goal of the Public Lands Agency Career Exploration (PLACE) program is to expose greater Arkansas River region high school juniors and seniors to career paths within the natural resource agencies that partner with GARNA. This includes Colorado Parks and Wildlife, the US Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management. Participating students spend roughly full days shadowing agency staff and are exposed to field experiences, special projects and meetings. Students may be involved with activities such as radio collar tracking, habitat improvement project tours, land and river patrol, parks maintenance, and advisory meetings. These experiences provide youth with direct contact with the day to day work agency personnel perform in their respective careers and fosters an interest in careers in land management; careers that are very viable and important in the region where a huge percentage of land is publicly owned.

GARNA is the Arkansas River Valley’s only local broadly focused conservation and educational institution with non-profit status. GARNA is supported by membership fees…will you join us?
