The Stage and Rail project is a proposed route from Salida, CO to Leadville, CO following the historic stagecoach road and Midland Railroad corridors. The route parallels the Arkansas River and traverses 70 miles of stunning landscapes in central Colorado.
Draft Master Plan & Maps: This 2015 planning document outlines the proposed route alternatives as well as the route history and vision for the trail. Please note that this is a draft and final route alignments are still under review.
Current Project Updates
The Colorado Mountain Club has been contracted to coordinate the Stage and Rail project and begin implementation on certain segments of the route. This year we are looking forward to:
- Quarterly Meetings of the Partner Advisory Board: This team of land managers, municipal leaders and citizen experts is steering the future course for the project, finalizing the route, and building support for official designation.
- Marketing and Brand Development: Ashley Ahlene is developing a style guide for the look and feel of the design elements for the Stage and Rail project.
- Signage: As segments of the route are finalized and designated, navigational and interpretive signage will be installed.
