Hiking Club Preview – Ecology Stroll
We’re so excited for the upcoming hiking club season that we couldn’t wait for the official start on May 29! On May 15 we are hosting a preview of our new Ecology Strolls miniseries. These casual walks will happen once per month and will be led by GARNA board member Truman Young. Truman has taught, mentored, and carried out ecological research for over forty years in Kenya, Panama, and the western United States. He brings years of experience in environmental education and the ecology, restoration, conservation, and management of human-dominated landscapes, especially rangelands. Each Ecology Stroll will focus on a different plant community in the Upper Arkansas watershed. The goal will be learning, not mileage–we may not travel far if we find lots of interesting distractions.
Our preview stroll will start with a guided tour of the Mount Shavano fish hatchery. After the tour we will walk along the Arkansas River near Frantz Lake and explore the riparian habitat along the river. Space is limited and registration is required. Click here to register. Many GARNA programs require a Liability Release Form be filled out each calendar year.
Your registration is secured upon receipt of payment, as long as there space is still available in a program. If you prefer not to register online (recommended), you may mail a check, made out to “GARNA” to the address below or stop by the office. Please include a note with the program you are registering for. Be aware, some programs sell out quickly, and we cannot confirm your spot with a mailed registration.

Cancellation policy:
If we are notified of your need to cancel by 24 hours of program date, your program fee will be refunded except for a $3.00 administrative fee. No refunds within 24 hours or after the event (but most events are transferable). If minimum enrollment has not been met 2 days before program date, programs will be cancelled and we will refund the full amount.
