Chaffee Gear Library
Outdoor Experiences for All
The Chaffee Gear Library, a program of GARNA, is committed to improving access to the outdoors for everybody. By offering a diverse range of outdoor equipment, the gear library aims to break down barriers and ensure that everyone, regardless of background or experience, has the opportunity to engage with nature and discover the transformative power of the outdoors. We believe in the importance of representation, equity, and inclusivity, and actively work to create an environment where everyone feels welcome and supported.
Who can use the Chaffee Gear Library?
The Chaffee Gear Library is open in a limited capacity to the general public at this time for short-term checkout of gear. The main focus of the gear library currently is on trying to help and support partner organizations as they work to get both youth and adults outside. If you are interested in borrowing something from the gear library, contact the GARNA office or email GARNA's Programs Director at craig@garna.org
Can I donate gear to the Chaffee Gear Library?
At the moment we are not taking any gear donations directly from individuals for our gear library. If you have used or new gear and would like to help us out, we do have a GARNA account at the Colorado Sports Recycler store (1070 E Rainbow Blvd, Salida CO). Just take your gear to the store and tell them that you would like the proceeds from the sale of your gear to go to GARNA. Fund from consignment sales will go to replacing gear from our library.
The Chaffee Mobile Gear Library was launched thanks to the Colorado Health Foundation and the CPW Outdoor Equity Grant Program.
The Colorado Health Foundation is bringing health in reach for all Coloradans by engaging closely with communities across the state through investing, policy advocacy, learning and capacity building.
The Colorado Parks & Wildlife Outdoor Equity Grant Program invests in organization that are working to increase access to the outdoors for youth and families from communities that are traditionally underrepresented in outdoor recreation and conservation.
