Upper Arkansas Wilderness Volunteers Spring Training
For the 3rd year in a row, the Upper Arkansas Wilderness Volunteers, a Chapter of GARNA, is organizing a training for all day Saturday, May 13 12, at the Buena Vista Community Center. This training is open to the public.
Training Coordinators for UAWV are working with the USFS Salida Ranger District on training content. Watch for further announcements on this event.
Past training topics have included:
- Trail maintenance
- Tool safety and use
- What to include in your Day Pack on the trails
- Campsite monitoring
- Leave No Trace
- How to handle encounters with wildlife
- Bugs–how to identify wilderness predator bugs (i.e. the Spruce Beetle) and report to Forest Service and how to identify/treat bug bites
- How to use the UAWV Trails Database
- Weather conditions–what to watch for
If you care about the beautiful trails in the Arkansas Valley and would like to do your part to be a good steward of these tremendous resources in our community, this training is for you.
Many GARNA programs require a liability release form be filled out each calendar year.
Your registration is secured upon receipt of payment. If you prefer not to register online (recommended), you may mail a check, made out to “GARNA” to the address below. Please include a note with the program you are registering for.

If we are notified of your need to cancel within 24 hours of program date, your program fee will be refunded except for a $3.00 administrative fee. If minimum enrollment has not been met by program date, programs will be cancelled 2 days prior to the date and we will refund the full amount.
