The Greater Arkansas River Nature Association and Land Trust of the Upper Arkansas have led the way in bringing environmental films to the Upper Arkansas Valley. The two organizations are again partnering to bring the Wild & Scenic Film Fest 2016, a world-renowned tour of the latest, cutting-edge environmental films, to Salida on Saturday, March 12 at the Salida SteamPlant Theater and to Buena Vista on Saturday, March 5 at the Buena Vista Community Center. The two events will benefit GARNA and LTUA and includes environmental and adventure films with unique films shown each night. Both evenings promise an “incredible selection of films to change your world.” Considered one of the nation’s premiere environmental and adventure film festivals, this year’s films combine stellar film making, beautiful cinematography and first-rate storytelling.
Doors open at 6:00 pm. Films start at 6:30 and will go until 9:30 pm. Drinks, food and popcorn will be available for sale. Ticket prices start at $10 with membership incentive. Kids 18 and under are just $5.
Salida Film Highlight: Paddle for the North. Deep in the Canadian North, six young men embarked on an epic adventure – 1500km, six rivers, three canoes, two months. It was going to be a mighty test of endurance, determination and friendship. But what they didn’t expect was the impact of the stories from one First Nations family. This chance encounter showed the team that the Peel Watershed debate is not just about protecting the environment, but also a way of life. A boys-own adventure turns into a mission to show the world why some places are worth preserving. They documented their trip to help show the world this remote area under threat from climate change and large-scale mining proposals.
An Education: A Father-Daughter Trip of Discovery, Soil Carbon Cowboys, The Way We Eat, Mile for Mile, The Accidental Environmentalist, Higher, Comes with Baggage: A Short History of Bicycle Travel from Boneshakers to Bikepackers, Teton Hooping Contingency, Leave It As It Is, To Slow Down and Breathe, One Woman Roadblock, Paddle for the North
