Railroad History of the Arkansas Valley: tour the Buena Vista Depot

May 17, 2015 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

BV DepotOne of three major railroads that developed the Upper Arkansas Valley, the Denver, South Park, and Pacific Railroad entered the valley in 1880 over Trout Creek Pass, headed for the mining camps at Leadville and Gunnison. Buena Vista Heritage has created a gem of a small museum in an actual refurbished DSP&P depot and adjacent caboose.

Vic Kuklin, frequent railroad storyteller, member of BV Heritage and former member of the DSP&P Historical Society will share the history of the railroad and its role in developing agriculture, mining, and ice harvesting in Buena Vista, Nathrop, and St. Elmo. In the 1880s, Nathrop was a bustling railroad town. Like many, this town transformed from a large, railroad town, to a sleepy community. This program will provide interesting insights as to what the region was like during the railroad “glory days”.

Cost: $6.50 for GARNA members, $8.50 for non members. This includes admission to the Depot museum.

Pre-registration is now closed.
