GARNA and Chaffee County 4-H are offering an introductory adult GPS class to help you start to master the basics of GPS (Global Positioning System) technology. Participants will explore how the system works and the basic functions of the handheld GPS unit, then go outside and practice marking and finding waypoints and go on a short treasure hunt. Geocaching will be discussed and participants will possibly look for a nearby cache.
The presenter of this course is Christy Fitzpatrick. Christy is the 4-H and family consumer sciences extension agent at the Colorado State University Extension office in Chaffee County. She has a special passion for everything GIS and has helped GARNA coordinate and its fall geospatial program for Salida-area middle and high school youth.
Participants are welcome to bring their own units but we will have enough for all participants to use.
This program will take place at the First Presbyterian Church at 7 Poncha Blvd. in Salida in the Discovery Classroom.
Cost: $5 for GARNA members, $7 for non-members
