The sub-alpine ecosystem, dominated by Engelmann spruce and sub-alpine fir forests, is characterized by long, cold winters, brief, cool summers and high annual precipitation. On a leisurely hike to Lost Lake, participants will identify the plants of the sub-alpine forests, meadows, rock falls and riparian areas and learn about their adaptations to these unique environments. The hike will be led by GARNA Board member and volunteer Marilyn Moore who will explain how these jewels of the plant world survive and even thrive in one of the harshest environments on earth. Lost Lake is located south of Cottonwood Pass on the east side of the Continental Divide.
Hikers should dress for changeable weather. Wear sturdy hiking shoes and bring water, a lunch and an alpine wildflower guide and hand lens if available. Marilyn recommends Alpine Flower Finder by Wingate and Yeatts. Information on meeting location, carpooling, etc. will be provided after registering. Times: 9:00 am until 3:00 pm (weather depending)
Fee: $10 for GARNA members and $15 for non-association members.

Many GARNA programs require a Liability Release Form be filled out each calendar year.
Your registration is secured upon receipt of payment, as long as there space is still available in a program. If you prefer not to register online (recommended), you may mail a check, made out to “GARNA” to the address below or stop by the office. Please include a note with the program you are registering for. Be aware, some programs sell out quickly, and we cannot confirm your spot with a mailed registration.

Cancellation policy:
If we are notified of your need to cancel by 24 hours of program date, your program fee will be refunded except for a $3.00 administrative fee. No refunds within 24 hours or after the event (but most events are transferable). If minimum enrollment has not been met 2 days before program date, programs will be cancelled and we will refund the full amount.
