Learn about what can be seen in the August night sky from University of Denver Professor Ron Mickle. If the night is clear, participants will see Jupiter’s four Galilean moons, NGC 6530, the Lagoon Nebula within the constellation Sagittarius, the picturesque rings of Saturn and perhaps the Perseid meteor shower!
Presenter: Ron Mickle, adjunct professor at the University of Denver, Department of Physics and Astronomy
Bio: Ron has been teaching astronomy at the University of Denver since 2011; he also teaches at Aurora Community College. In his career he has worked as a commercial pilot, worked 10 years for the Department of Homeland Security, 16 years for the Federal Aviation Administration, has been a commercial scuba diver in Alaska, and flew helicopters for the US Army. He has a degree in chemistry from Troy University, and a graduate degree in astronomy from Swinburne University of Technology.
Location: Revealed upon registration.
What to bring: Flashlight (red lens if possible), sturdy shoes, light jacket, folding chair.
Cost: $10 for GARNA members and $20 for non-members. Use PayPal button below. We expect this program to sell out, so register early! All fees support important stewardship initiatives in the Upper Arkansas Valley. If special assistance is required, please call the GARNA office a few days in advance so accommodations can be made. Many GARNA programs require a Liability Release Form be filled out each calendar year.
Your registration is secured upon receipt of payment, as long as there space is still available in a program. If you prefer not to register online (recommended), you may mail a check, made out to “GARNA” to the address below or stop by the office. Please include a note with the program you are registering for. Be aware, some programs sell out quickly, and we cannot confirm your spot with a mailed registration.

Cancellation policy:
If we are notified of your need to cancel by 24 hours of program date, your program fee will be refunded except for a $3.00 administrative fee. No refunds within 24 hours or after the event (but most events are transferable). If minimum enrollment has not been met 2 days before program date, programs will be cancelled and we will refund the full amount.
