Clean-Up Green-Up

May 18, 2019 @ 8:30 am - 2:30 pm

It’s time again to clean up all public lands within the Upper Arkansas River watershed and along the Arkansas River. Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area (AHRA) and the Greater Arkansas River Nature Association (GARNA) are working with the community for the 28th Annual Clean Up Green Up on Colorado Public Lands Day, Saturday, May 18. This year, thanks to the Friends of State Parks, all volunteers will be provided with a picnic lunch in Buena Vista, Salida and Cotopaxi. Volunteers will be eligible for drawing prizes from local businesses such as rafting gear, gift cards, gift baskets, toys and beer.

Clean Up Green Up hours will count towards the 48 volunteer hours needed for a free State Parks Pass, if volunteers pre-register here:  http://bit.ly/AHRACleanupGreenup.Volunteers may also register in Cotopaxi, Buena Vista and Salida on the morning of May 18 between 8:30-9:30 a.m. Volunteer registration stations are located at AHRA Headquarters, 307 W. Sackett in Salida, Buena Vista Community Center Aspen Room at 715 East Main Street,  or at the Cotopaxi Arkansas River KOA at 21435 US Hwy 50. To preview a list of public lands sites in need of clean up, or to sign up in advance, go to http://bit.ly/AHRACleanupGreenupSites.

All volunteers will be treated to a picnic lunch at each location from 12:00 pm until 2:00 p.m. Volunteers who register at one of the above listed sites will be entered for drawing prizes from Clean Up Green Up sponsors including Soulcraft Brewing, Coloradoraft Frame Supply, Monarch Mountain, Anderson Motors, Riverboat Works, Moonlight Pizza and Brewpub, Kaleidoscope Toys, Natural Grocers, and Southwest Conservation Corps.

Normal trash items will be accepted for free at the Chaffee County Landfill on Saturday, May 18. In addition, a dumpster will be placed in front of AHRA at 307 W. Sackett Avenue that will accept collected trash and items found on public lands such as tires and electronics. Finally, items found on public lands can be left at any of the AHRA sites along the river, next to the bathrooms. Please do not place items next to the road leading into the AHRA site. Sites include Railroad Bridge, Ruby Mountain, Fisherman’s Bridge, Hecla Junction, Salida East, Rincon and Vallie Bridge.
