Crisis in the World’s Fisheries: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow

August 9, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Join Dr. Russ McGoodwin, at 7 PM on Thursday, August 9, at A Church to learn about new challenges emerging in the world’s fisheries, including the unsustainable development of marine aquaculture, the impacts of climatic and ecological change, the bio-engineering of marine species, the economic marginalization of small-scale fishing communities, and the ever-greater demand for limited ocean resources that is prompted by the world’s burgeoning human population.

Dr. McGoodwin is Professor Emeritus in Cultural Anthropology at the University of Colorado in Boulder, and is one of the world’s leading experts on maritime fishing people, fishing communities, and fisheries-management policies.  He was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, has worked in fishing communities around the world, and with international organizations that seek to bring about policies that will sustain fishing communities and fisheries resources.

Dr. McGoodwin will present  at 7 pm on Thursday, August 9, at A Church in Salida (419 D Street).

The cost of the program is $3 for GARNA members, $5 for non-members. Online registration is available below via our secure, pay pal site. Please note: you do not need a pay pal account, only a credit card. Fees support coordination and promotion of GARNA programs.
