Scott Adams will lead the group up Spiral Drive to the summit of Tenderfoot Hill, aka S-Mountain, and back (about a 1 mile round trip). During the hike, Scott will point out the outcrops of various volcanic rocks on the mountain and discuss their origins. From the summit, Scott will discuss the regional geologic features seen from the terrific view of the Upper Arkansas River valley, and discuss the valley’s geologic history.
Scott attended the University of Kansas, obtaining a BS degree in geology and mathematics and an MS degree in geophysics. He pursued a 31-year career as a petroleum geophysicist, geologist, exploration program manager and reservoir manager with Chevron Corporation, with numerous domestic and international assignments. His interest in the volcanism associated with Tenderfoot Mountain was stimulated by noticing virtually identical rocks in Hawaii……but 27 million years younger!
