Get out with GARNA and the Friends of Browns Canyon to explore Browns Canyon National Monument. The hike is approximately 6 miles round-trip in the heart of Browns Canyon National Monument. The rating for this hike is moderate, with a downhill outbound, and uphill on the return with about 600 feet of elevation gain on a steady, moderate grade.
Logan Myers, Friends of Browns Canyon Board Member, will lead this hike.
Trail Features: From the trailhead in Turret, the group will hike into Stafford Gulch, then along a foot trail underneath the Reef, past an old mining camp, and into the south end of the Monument where there are some of the unusual rock formations visible from US 285. Railroad Gulch is an amazing defile with a beautiful view of the Sawatch range. The hike back up is the same route, through a mixed woodland which should give some shade.
