Interested in learning more about last summer’s Hayden Pass Fire and its effects on the San Isabel National Forest? USDA Forest Service, Mountain Zone Fire Management Officer Chris Naccarato will provide insight and information on the Hayden Pass fire and the role of fire in modern wildland management. His presentation on the history of fire management in America will cover how wildfire and prescribed fire have historically been used, how public perception of fire has changed over time, and a vision of fire’s role in the future.
Chris is a fifth generation descendant of local pioneers. A certified Fire Behavior Analyst, he has been fighting fire for over 25 years and has fought fire in 36 of the 50 states as well as in Canada and Mexico. Before his time in the Upper Arkansas River Valley, he served 9 years as a member of the Pike Hotshots, an elite 20-person wildland firefighting crew. Chris has been the Mountain Zone Fire Management Officer since 2003 and is responsible for all fire preparedness, suppression, prescribed fire, hazard fuel reduction and fire prevention for the USDA Forest Service Salida and Leadville Ranger Districts.
