In 2018, Ken Konopka spent six and a half months hiking almost 1,700 miles of the Appalachian Trail, exploring its vast natural beauty and unique cultural heritage. On Tuesday, April 30 at 7 pm, join Ken for a travelogue of his journey to date and his return in early May, 2019 to hike the remaining 500 miles. The Appalachian National Scenic Trail, generally known as the Appalachian Trail or simply the A.T., is the longest hiking-only trail in the world, currently at 2,200 miles. The trail extends from Springer Mountain in Georgia to Mount Katahdin in Maine. More than 2 million people hike parts of the trail each year. Most of the trail is in forest or wildlands, although some portions traverse towns, roads and farms. It passes through 14 states: George, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine.
Ken is a retired software engineer and avid outdoors man. He likes to ski, raft, occasionally fish, and hike. He and his wife Bonnie have resided in Salida for the past two years after retiring from their jobs in Albuquerque, New Mexico which was home for more than 30 years.
The evening presentation will take place in the Fellowship Hall of the Presbyterian Church in Salida, 7 Poncha Blvd. Salida, CO, Tuesday, April 30, from 7:00pm-8:00pm. The cost for the program is $3 for GARNA members and $6 for non-members. All fees support important stewardship initiatives in the Upper Arkansas Valley. If special assistance is required, please call the GARNA office a few days in advance so accommodations can be made. Many GARNA programs require a Liability Release Form be filled out each calendar year.
Your registration is secured upon receipt of payment, as long as there space is still available in a program. If you prefer not to register online (recommended), you may mail a check, made out to “GARNA” to the address below or stop by the office. Please include a note with the program you are registering for. Be aware, some programs sell out quickly, and we cannot confirm your spot with a mailed registration.

Cancellation policy:
If we are notified of your need to cancel by 24 hours of program date, your program fee will be refunded except for a $3.00 administrative fee. No refunds within 24 hours or after the event (but most events are transferable). If minimum enrollment has not been met 2 days before program date, programs will be cancelled and we will refund the full amount.
