GARNA is partnering with Central Colorado Humanists for May’s Sunday Science on wind energy. Don’t miss this great presentation. For information or to register please email info@garna.org.
Summary: The talk will be about the nuts and bolts of how wind turbines work and how the electricity is put into the grid and distributed. Presenter Eric Simons will also cover the basics of building a wind farm, how our power production and transmission system works and a little about the economics of the industry. This will not be a highly technical talk.
Speaker: Eric Simons moved to Chaffee County after many years in Boulder. His B.A. degree is from Wesleyan University, and he received a J.D. degree and a Masters in Environmental Policy and Management from University of Denver. He spent many years as an executive in the domestic oil business and 4 years in Russia working on oil related business. Most recently, he spent 15 years developing and building wind farms throughout North America. His last job was with Juwi, Inc., which was then the largest European “pure play” renewable energy developer. Pure play means not owned by a regular utility.
