Interpretive Raft Trip with Susan J. Tweit

July 20, 2014 @ 12:00 pm - 6:00 pm

river photoEcho Canyon River Expeditions and GARNA have come together to offer an interpretive raft trip on the Arkansas River – Bighorn Sheep Canyon, between Salida and Pueblo, Colorado. This unique raft excursion offers an interpretive element as Susan J. Tweit, renowned Naturalist, will join us as we navigate a gentle section of whitewater. Susan J. Tweit is a plant biologist and award-winning author, speaker, and teacher. She is the winner of the Colorado Book Award, the EDDIE, and the Colorado Author’s League Award; among many other accomplishments. Susan resides in Salida, CO.

A carpool will leave from Salida to Echo Canyon at 12:15 pm on Sunday, July 20. Expect to be floating for approximately 3 hours; on-river time will be contingent on river flows. If you tend to be cold, Echo Canyon River Expeditions has generously offered to provide wetsuits and booties for no additional charge. Personal flotation devices are included in the cost of the excursion.

Although this is a quieter section of class I, II and possibly class III whitewater, please wear multiple layers of all quick drying clothing and secure footwear that can get wet. We suggest bringing an unbreakable water bottle. Bring dry clothes to change into after the trip. Feel free to bring binoculars, but please realize that even on a gentle class II section of river we will sometimes see splashes. Cameras are only recommended if they are waterproof.

The exact location of the trip will be determined closer to the date based on river conditions and preliminary scouting – likely between Trading Post and Lone Pine. The trip size is limited to just 28 adults (4 rafts maximum), and participants can choose to either paddle or hang on as Echo Canyon guides maneuver the rafts.

Trip Includes

  • Guided river trip with an interpretive tour.
  • All fees, a personal floatation device, raft guide services and wetsuit and booties if needed.
  • Susan’s naturalist conversations, and drinks and light appetizers after the trip on Echo Canyon’s beautiful patio.

Cost per Adult: $85
