It’s been quite the winter when it comes to snow and precipitation. What is the outlook in the Upper Arkansas River Basin for 2018 and what are water managers doing to prepare? Join GARNA, Central Colorado Conservancy and the Upper Arkansas Water Conservancy District (UAWCD) for an overview of water administration and management in the Upper Arkansas Basin and learn about the importance of storage reservoirs in the upper watersheds such as O’Haver Lake and other types of storage potential in our community – alluvial storage. We’ll also discuss how we plan for drought years and the other exciting work being done by the UAWCD and other agency partners with regards to water protection and supply in the Upper Arkansas River Basin.
This program will have 2 parts. The first part will be held at the offices of the Upper Arkansas Water Conservancy District in Salida. Following an introduction and presentation at the office, participants will carpool to O’Haver Reservoir for a field visit and picnic lunch. O’Haver Reservoir is on the way to Poncha Pass at Hwy 285 and CR 200. Participants are advised to wear warm clothing/layers in preparation for colder temperatures as the reservoir sits at a higher elevation than town.
