Join GARNA, Salida Mountain Sports, and Metanoia producer and manager Connie Self for the Salida premier of “Metanoia”, a film event showcasing Jeff Lowe’s unparalleled solo climb of the north face of the Eiger. Rock and Ice Magazine called Jeff Lowe “the greatest Alpinist of a Generation”, other’s referred to him as the “most accomplished and most important climber in North American History.” Jeff pioneered a mind boggling 1,000 first ascents before spending the last years of his life in a wheel chair with a disease similar to ALS. Jeff passed away on August 24, 2018. Featuring a bonus short of a 1978 American ascent of Ama Dablam by Jeff Lowe, Tom Frost and local climber and filmmaker Rob Dubin. Come celebrate outdoor adventure and the life of Jeff Lowe with Connie Self and Rob Dubin, who will be on-hand for a Q & A session after the features. Tickets are available for online purchase below, or at Salida Mountain Sports.
Jeff Lowe’s “Metanoia” transcends the experience of the film itself, inspiring others to look at life and struggles differently and seek out their own “Metanoia”. Anyone who has ever faced a challenge will get something from this movie. “Metanoia” is an epic adventure of one man’s journey from the top of the world to the end of the line. Jeff helped make climbing what it is today, through technical innovation and more than a thousand first ascents, including the north face of the Eiger, featured in this film where he experienced a spiritual transformation. Jeff’s story inspires us all, as he brings the creativity and strength that characterized his climbing career to his final challenge: his own mortality.
“‘Metanoia’ is an inspiring account of a visionary climber’s life, yet it is so much more than a climbing film. It is a tale of heroism and redemption, set against the colorful canvas of mountains. The story is more powerful for allowing us to see the vulnerable, flawed Lowe. This glimpse into his once troubled psyche helps us relate to him as a fellow human, and offers hope. Within all of us is the capacity to face adversity and inner demons, and harness our true potential.” — National Geographic Exploration & Adventure Blog “Metanoia: A Climbing Film About an Extraordinary Life” by Avery Stonich.
