GARNA partners with Colorado Parks and Wildlife to train volunteers on how to monitor nesting boxes on State Wildlife and State Parks land. Bluebirds, swallows and occasionally other species use cavities for nesting. Currently there are over 130 boxes in Chaffee County that are monitored regularly during the spring and summer. Each year volunteers check the boxes about once a week and record information about the birds.
Saturday, March 11 is the training for volunteers who wish to help with the Nest Box Project this spring and summer. Several former volunteers are not returning and we really need some new people to join the project. GARNA partners with Colorado Parks and Wildlife to monitor nesting boxes on State Parks and State Wildlife lands in Chaffee County. The boxes are primarily used by Mountain Bluebirds and Tree or Violet-green Swallows. The recorded information is then entered onto the Cornell Lab of Ornithology website for their Nestwatch Program. It is fascinating to observe the nest from first egg laid to last hatchling fledged. Do not worry if you have travel plans, you will be partnered with another volunteer and there are always others who can help. Great activity to do with your kids or grand kids!

Many GARNA programs require a Liability Release Form be filled out each calendar year.
Your registration is secured upon receipt of payment, as long as there space is still available in a program. If you prefer not to register online (recommended), you may mail a check, made out to “GARNA” to the address below or stop by the office. Please include a note with the program you are registering for. Be aware, some programs sell out quickly, and we cannot confirm your spot with a mailed registration.

Cancellation policy:
If we are notified of your need to cancel by 24 hours of program date, your program fee will be refunded except for a $3.00 administrative fee. No refunds within 24 hours or after the event (but most events are transferable). If minimum enrollment has not been met 2 days before program date, programs will be cancelled and we will refund the full amount.
