Existing and potential Salida Trail Ecological Restoration Project (STERP) volunteers are excited to kick off the season with a Plant Walk on Wednesday, June 5th from 9:00-10:30 am. Meet at the Steamplant in Salida at 9 am and walk up the Monarch Spur Trail together looking at both the native plants being cultivated along the trail as well as the invasive weeds that volunteers are mitigating.
Specialists joining the walk will include Kayla Malone, Chaffee County’s Noxious Weed Supervisor, Marilyn Moore, President of Salida’s Tree Board, Buffy Lenth, Central Colorado Conservancy, Donna Rhoads, Salida-area Parks, Open-space and Trails, Dominique Naccarato, GARNA Executive Director, and possibly, Alex Tonnesen, owner and operator of Western Native Seed in Coaldale who provides all of the native seed used for restoration projects along the trail.
This will be a fun opportunity to learn about local ecology, which weeds to pull, which plants are best adapted to live in Salida and surrounding areas, and which species provide important habitat for bees, butterflies, and birds.
Please RSVP at info@garna.org
GARNA is also seeking one or more people to help schedule work days and volunteers for the Monarch Spur Park pollinator demonstration site, along the Monarch Spur Trail. Please contact info@garna.org for more information.
Many GARNA programs require a Liability Release Form be filled out each calendar year.
Your registration is secured upon receipt of payment, as long as there space is still available in a program.
