As a citizen science project at the newly formed South Arkansas River Ecosystem Learning Center (SARELC), Heidi Slaymaker’s biology students from Salida High School will be gathering baseline data on the South Arkansas River on Monday, September 21. The students will be collecting data including benthic macroinvertebrate type and quantity, nitrate, phosphate and dissolved oxygen levels and pH. This will create a stream profile with flow rates will be used to assess river health and advise future questions and measurements for pre and post restoration efforts.
GARNA and the Collegiate Peaks Anglers chapter of Trout Unlimited (CPATU) will be out at the site helping the students gather the data. SARELC is a partner project with the GARNA, the City of Salida, CPATU, Southwest Conservation Corps, and the Land Trust of the Upper Arkansas.
Many GARNA programs require a Liability Release Form be filled out each calendar year.
Your registration is secured upon receipt of payment, as long as there space is still available in a program.
