Join presenter and poet Aaron A. Abeyta for a writing workshop on The Four Homes of Poetry. The four cornerstones of poetry are explained, explicated, examined and “exposed” for poets of all levels. Through close reading, participants will study the ways that acclaimed poets utilize the “four homes” in their works. The tools presented in this workshop will serve poets at any stage in the writing process.
Aaron Abeyta is a Colorado native and professor of English at Adams State University and the Mayor of Antonito, Colorado, his hometown. He is the author of four collections of poetry and one novel. For his book, Colcha, Abeyta received an American Book Award and the Colorado Book Award. In addition, his novel, Rise, Do Not be Afraid, was a finalist for the 2007 Colorado Book Award and El Premio Aztlan. Abeyta was awarded a Colorado Council on the Arts Fellowship for poetry, and he was recently named the Poet Laureate of Colorado’s Western Slope by the Karen Chamberlain Poetry Festival.
Aaron has over 100 publications, which includes work published in ‘An Introduction to Poetry, 10th ed.‘ ‘Literature: An Introduction to Fiction, Poetry, & Drama, 8th ed.‘ ‘Conversations in American Literature: Language, Rhetoric, & Culture‘ ‘Colorado Central Magazine‘ ‘The High Country News‘ and numerous other journals.
Abeyta received his MFA from Colorado State University. He lives in Antonito, Colorado where he can remain close to his family and culture, both of which greatly influence his work. This afternoon workshop will be followed with an evening presentation and reading.
This workshop takes place from 1 pm to 4 pm on Sunday, October 28.

Cancellation policy:
If we are notified of your need to cancel by 24 hours of program date, your program fee will be refunded except for a $3.00 administrative fee. No refunds within 24 hours or after the event (but most events are transferable). If minimum enrollment has not been met 2 days before program date, programs will be cancelled and we will refund the full amount.
