On behalf of the Beasley family and scholarship committee, GARNA awarded the annual Brett Beasley Memorial Scholarship to Salida High School Senior, Isabel Hughes, in the amount of $1000. In her application, Izzy demonstrated a commitment to the love of Colorado’s natural spaces and legacy through volunteerism and her college pathway of broadcast journalism. She plans to use her voice to “break through the drowning noise of our modern world and remind us what’s at stake and what’s worth protecting.”
In addition of maintaining a 4.0 GPA, Izzy was the captain of both the Girls Soccer team and Salida Racing Mountain Bike team during her senior year. She interned with Heart of the Rockies Radio, served on Student Council and has volunteered with numerous organizations throughout Chaffee County. She is a leader among her peers and a role model to others. GARNA is proud to support Izzy in her college education at the University of Colorado, Boulder.
The inspiration of the Memorial Scholarship is to honor Brett Beasley, who was a partner and friend to GARNA and an employee of the USFS – Salida Ranger District. The Scholarship is awarded annually to a high school senior who is interested in pursuing a career in natural resources. The scholarship is funded by individual donors – donate to the scholarship fund.
