Sad news

The Greater Arkansas River Nature Association is sad to share the news that GARNA’s beloved Executive Director, Jason Marsden, passed away recently in Salida.

Jason joined GARNA in October 2023 and brought with him an incredible enthusiasm and devotion to our work. In his time with the organization, Jason became GARNA’s most passionate champion for environmental stewardship of the Upper Arkansas River Valley, equitable access to the outdoors, and inspiring our next generation of nature lovers. We will miss him and his infectious energy greatly.

Jason’s commitment to GARNA’s mission and love for community defined his time in Salida. The GARNA Board of Directors and staff team are dedicated to carrying forward the great programs and initiatives he helped develop and strengthen.

As GARNA mourns this tragic loss together with all who knew and loved Jason, we also express our deep gratitude for the opportunities we had to collaborate and grow under his leadership. GARNA staff is taking a two week period to collectively grieve and reorient. The office will be closed and regular programs cancelled. We will reconnect as a community at Mountainfilm on Tour on March 13.
